Monsanto Company Recognized on 2014 Global 100 Most Sustainable Corporations in the World Index
ST. LOUIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Monsanto Company was recognized yesterday on the 2014 Global 100 Most Sustainable Corporations in the World (Global 100) index, produced by Toronto-based media company, Corporate Knights. Monsanto ranked 37th overall, and was 5th highest ranked among U.S. companies and 5th globally in the materials industry.

“We are honored to be recognized as a sustainability leader on the Global 100 index,” said Jesus Madrazo, vice president, corporate engagement. “We know farmers and society are facing new environmental challenges, and we’re committed to innovating and creating ways to help feed the growing global population while preserving our natural resources and supporting our people and communities.”

According to Corporate Knights, Monsanto scored well in energy, greenhouse gas and waste productivity; and also in leadership diversity and innovation capacity.

The Global 100 has come to be recognized as the gold standard in corporate sustainability analysis. Companies named to the Global 100 are the top overall sustainability performers in their respective industrial sectors.

Inclusion in the Global 100 index is determined using 12 quantitative sustainability indicators, including the amount of revenue companies generate per unit of energy consumption, the ratio of CEO to average worker salary and lost time injury rate. Founded in 2002, Corporate Knights is a Toronto-based media and investment advisory company. For more information, visit www.corporateknights.com.
